FULFIL THE FORM BELOW
I started to practice law on my own for the first time in 2009 right after the stock market crashed and I was laid off from my position as a Commercial Real Estate Associate at a large law firm in Philadelphia.
I packed up, moved to New York, and bounced around as a freelance attorney for a few years, working on many different projects. After working for a few years, again as a Commercial Real Estate attorney at now a large New York firm, and growing to completely dislike that particular grind, I decided to go out on my own. Start my own practice. Work for myself.
For the past four years, I’ve been doing just that … and I could not be happier. I’m now fully a part of the gig economy and loving it as it gives me the freedom and flexibility to meet my clients wherever they are, and I understand their needs better, because of the shared experiences.
Over time, I have managed to carve out a space to practice in, where I’m doing exactly what I want to do, and how I want to do it. I no longer practice commercial real estate, but draft, negotiate, and review contracts for many clients and friends who are artists – writers, dancers, filmmakers, poets, music artists. I help people start businesses, whether they are for profit or not-for-profit, and continue to work with them as general counsel after start-up. I identify as queer and support LGBTQ+ clients either directly or by referring them to another supportive attorney. I represent seniors and veterans whenever I can.
I am a co-founder of the Caribbean filmmaking collective, The Caribbean Film Academy. When I’m not practicing law, this is what I spend my time doing – facilitating the exhibition, production and distribution of Caribbean films.
I love traveling, reading, hiking, bike riding, spending time with little children and older folx, and being an amateur photographer.
I attended the University of the District of Columbia (where I played basketball), and Howard University School of Law. I have one son, who is now a sophomore at Howard University, studying Finance … and if I’m good, he’ll head to law school right after … we’ll see lol!
